Tiyul to the Negev/Eilat
Our tiyul to the Negev desert (Feb 6-9) was unbelievable!
We began our trip in the Western Negev town of Kfar Maimon, where we visited special greenhouses growing vegetables in a special way during the Shmitah year. These vegetables are grown on matzaim menutakim - special flower pots inside greenhouses that are completely enclosed and disconnected from the ground, making it permissible to grow them during Shmitah without resorting to the Heter Mechira. Mr. Moti Shomron of the "Otzar Ha'Aretz" organization showed us around.
Following that we hiked in the beautiful Nachal Chavarim, before continuing on to Eilat. After dinner at our hotel, we participated in an inspiring night-time "desert spirituality" program in the Eilat mountains.
Our second day consisted of a visit to Eilat's Underwater Observatory and Aquarium, a cruise on a yacht in the Red Sea, and another hike in the Eilat Mountains.
On Friday we headed back North, for a hike in the stunningly beautiful Machtesh Ramon, followed by a Shabbat in the nearby development town of Mitzpe Ramon.
Wow!!
