New Program Gives Senior Female Teachers Higher Profile
The four senior women on our faculty - Mrs. Mali Brofsky, Mrs. Ora Derovan, Mrs. Sharon Issacson and Mrs. Sarah Dena Katz - have been appointed to the role of Mechanechet. Each Mechanechet brings with her many years of teaching and life experiences, which enhances the subjects she is sharing with her students. Each Wednesday night, one of them gives an inspiring shiur to all of the students. So far the Mechanchot have spoken on such diverse topics as "Chesed as a means to G-dliness", "What is the Role of a Yoetzet Halacha", "Hellenism Then and Now" and "Looking to Our Avot as Paradigms for our Interpersonal Relationships". The girls have a wonderful opportunity to hear various perspectives on life from their female role models on a continual basis. Additionally programs like our Rosh Chodesh breakfast with a panel discussion on "Making the most of your year in Israel" have laid the foundation for deeper discussions and intensified personal development for many of the students. Coming up during finals is a "brunch and schmooze" on the topic of "Personal development - finding your unique place". The girls will get a break from their studying and chazara while they contemplate the direction of their future growth. |
